    • the choice to stay in the countryside is due to the amount of land and the ability to cultivate an "x" amount of food for security compared to those living in the city

    • in urban shanty towns the government is not willing to help provide basic services such as water and electricity
    • often times the residents there are responsible for the improvements made in these areas such as illegally connecting up a source of power supply from nearby power lines
    • an informal sector is created when people make up their own jobs such as selling pirated movies, vitamins, socks, and food on the bus or streets. Small family enterprises like Bodegas.
