The flashcards below were created by user xiongav on FreezingBlue Flashcards. What would you like to do?

  1. Describe the technique and use of CT.
Desc: x-ray of brain; computer analysis produces "slices" which shows 3-D like reconstruction of each area.

Uses: Detects lesions, abrasions, areas of infarct, aneurysm.
  2. Describe the technique and use of MRI
Uses a magnetic field & radio waves to make cross-sectional images.

Uses: Used to exclude neurological disorders in those w/ MI.
  3. Describe the technique and use of PET (positron emission tomography).
    • 1) injection of radioactive substance.
    • 2) travels to brain & appears as white spots on scan.
    • 3) data relayed to computer.
    • 4) makes images of activity & 3D visual of CNS.

Uses: detects O2 use, glucose metabolism, blood flow, NT receptor interaction.
  4. Describe the technique & use of SPECT (single photon emission computed tomographY)
Similar to PET but less costly and resolution is poorer.
