    where bones connect at a joint or articulate with each other
  2. synarthrosis
    when referring to joints: are immovable
  3. amphiarthrosis
    when referring to joints: allow slight movement
  4. diarthrosis
    when referring to joints: allow free movement
  5. flexion
    decreases of an angle (usually in the sagittal plane)
  6. extension
    Increases of an angle (usually in the sagittal plane)
  7. abduction
    Movement of a body part away from the midline (usually in the frontal plane)
  8. adduction
    movement of a body part toward the midline (usually in the frontal plane)
  9. hyperextension
    extension beyond anatomical position
  10. lateral flexion
    bending the trunk (vertebral column) to the side
