Tell me about yourself.
- I was a Corpsman in the US Navy for 5 years. Deployed to Afghanistan.
- I like biking and going to the gym.
- I like fitness, but I also like food.
- I had the opportunity to work and be trained as a sushi chef for over a year and a half.
- I've been to several mission trips to the Philippines and Mexico.
What is your greatest weakness?
- My mom is a perfectionist, and my mom taught me to be very well organized and done everything correctly.
- So I have this personality where I like to take charge of certain situations, specially when I know my way is better and more efficient. Sometimes people take it the wrong way. I just want to help.
- But I'm also a team player and know when to humble myself and learn from others.
What is your greatest Strength?
My biggest strength is being a people person. Being well rounded and get along with just about everybody. Having the skills to deal with people with different personalities and backgrounds is important.
Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult patient.
I would get the child focus on something else, like getting the childs attention by making him listen to what I was saying and assure him that the sooner he behaves the sooner he will get his surprise sticker! Cartoon stickers are handy and worked in the past.
What do you like most about being a Medical Assistant?
The best part of the job is after the procedure is done and the patient is pleased with the quality of healthcare they received.
What do you dislike the most about being an MA?
The worst part of the job would be the inability to make patients feel comfortable. It is my responsibility to gain the trust of my patients.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years professionally?
In five years I hope to finish nursing school or close to being done. I plan to stay in the medical field so I hope that if I do get this job, that in five years I would still be an employee here in Kaiser and hopefully as a nurse or at a higher level of position.
Why do you want to work here?
Kaiser is a well known medical organization here in Southern California and provide high quality care. I have friends and family that have been seen in Kaiser and were pleased with their care. I want to and learn from the best.
How much experience do you have with patients?
I worked in USNH Okinawa for two years. Working for the majority of my time there in the Medical Surgery Ward and Pediatric Clinic. After that I worked for three years as part of a Medical Support Group for Marines. We were responsible for the Medical Readiness of a thousand plus Marines.
Do you like being around people?
Yes, I love being with people. I love caring for people.
Do you have good computer skills?
I have computer skills. When I was younger I use to design websites using the Adobe programs. (dreamweaver, golive, photoshop) I have some knowledge of Mircrosoft programs such as Excel and Powerpoint.
What is the most important part of counseling patients?
Patient education is really important. To make sure that we are in sync with the patients. Making sure that they understand the procedure that they are going to receive, understands the steps after and what to expect and look forward to. To make sure that they understand everything to prevent miscommunication and errors in the future.
How do you protect the rights and confidentiality of patients?
- confirm identity of patients
- never discuss patient's case without permission
- never leave patient documents un attended
- conduct interviews in private
What have you done to reduce costs, increase revenue, or save time?
Work smarter not harder. Not necessarily mean shortcuts. In the past I try to learn the job as quickly as possible. Learning how everything flows in the work area. Then coming with ideas on how to improve the patient flow. For example, printing paper work ahead of time, prepping exam rooms and getting everything organized and ready before opening hours. This will prevent congestion of patients. This will improve the flow more efficiently and save time.
How do you work toward becoming better as a medical assistant?
Continued learning and training. Learn from co-workers with more experience and taking advantage training provided.
What makes you right for this position?
You should hire me because I have the experience and the personality. I am perfect for the position. I believe that I can be an effective asset to the company and bring high quality healthcare to your patients.
Because I have professionalism and an out going personality. I believe that these two combinations are important as a medical assistant because you're not only engaging patients in different age groups, but also patients with different personalities and backgrounds. We need to have both, be professional in the work area and be a people person among our patients.
What schedule do you hope to work? Are you willing to work extra hours?
- I'm willing to work Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm. Willing to work extra hours.
- I prefer not to work on Sundays.
What do you think is your main duty as a medical assistant?
My main duty is to assist the the providers and give quality care to the patients.
Making the process and experience for the patients as smooth as possible. Decreasing stress and the work load for the patients and doctors.
Can you explain this gap in your employment history?
When I got out of the military I wanted to take a break from working and do other things that interest me and had passion for. I was involved in several mission work overseas. When I'm in the states I worked as a sushi chef for two years. I also worked part time for my dad's company as a data entry clerk.
