  1. NUCLEAR FAMILY UNIVERSAL?
    • Yes, because it is the most functional  form of family

    • Young children are harmed by being given too many powers and this weakens the parent authority

    • Extended family networks can be beneficial to nuclear families as they can support the adults in employment as well as the children's socialisation into cultural norms and values 
    • However this could also cause some conflict through undermining parental authority
    • Government policies will support the care of the elderly e.g. the NHS and national pension schemes
  5. THE PURPOSE OF FAMILY
    • Economic needs: food, shelter
    • Socialisation of the children 
    • Stable satisfaction of sex drive
    • Reproducing
