    • Independent Phase Controlled Compensator
    • Type of capacitor – purpose is to provide VAR support and correct unbalanced voltages.  Installed at tapped Transformer Station on the 27.6kV where the supply 115 kV circuits run in proximity to the 500 kV circuits.  Are necessary because of the voltage imbalanced caused by the 500kV circuit
  46. VAR
    • Volt-Ampere Reactive
    • Type of capacitor – purpose is to provide VAR support and correct unbalanced voltages.  Installed at tapped Transformer Station on the 27.6kV where the supply 115 kV circuits run in proximity to the 500 kV circuits.  Are necessary because of the voltage imbalanced caused by the 500kV circuit
  47. OA
    • Outline Agreement
    • Hydro One's policy is to acquire, where practical, competitive bids for its purchases to maintain the integrity and transparency of the procurement process and ensure best value for dollars spent.
    • Establishes terms and conditions with a specific vendor for specific period of time – typically following competitive process
    • Used to manage repetitive high-volume transactions – eliminate need to repeat competitive process
    • Vehicle to leverage Corporate spend to derive best value
  48. HIROP
    • High Resistance Open Phase Protection
    • Distance relaying has limited coverage for high resistance ground faults and will not detect open phase faults.
    • If one phase of a high voltage line goes open without physically touching ground the fault may go undetected.
    • The inverse time over current relay connected in the neutral path of the protection has been applied for the detection of a HIROP condition. The solid state electronic type relays, which conform to an inverse time characteristic, have been standardized for use in “A” and “B” groups respectively.
  49. DUR
    • Direct Under Reaching Scheme
    • Zone 1 Protection - the ratio is set to instantly cover 80-85% of the circuit
  50. DOR
    • Direct Over Reaching Scheme
    • Zone 2 protection is set to cover 125%-150% of the circuit (will therefore overlook into adjacent zones causing erroneaous trips from faults outside the zone – to prevent this trip are normally timed)
  51. POR
    • Permissive Over Reaching Scheme
    • Type of DOR
    • Zone 2 will start a timer (400ms)Sends a Permissive signal to the "blind" station to trip.
  52. DIRC
    • Directional comparison scheme
    • Type of Zone 2 DOR protectionhas a third zone used to address the problem of direct overreach - uses an om3 relay which looks backwards if fault occurs and will trip local breakers; the zone 2 will then try to trip, but the om3 will sense the fault as well and send a blocking signal to prevent it
  53. LEO
    • Line End Open
    • scheme forms part of the "A" group only and is generally not duplicatedBecause of the high capacitive effect, 500 kV transmission lines can not be left on potential. 500 kV transmission lines have the potential to develop dangerous overvoltages when the line is in service at one terminal only. As a result, as part of the line protection scheme Line-End-Open (LEO) trip logic along with backup overvoltage protection is provided.
  54. DIFF
    • Circuit Differential
    • one of the newest generations relay schemes in critical infrastructure protectiona current imbalance resulting in current flow in the differential protection over-current relay causing it to initiate a trip
  55. SON
    • Telecommunications is on Sonnet
    • Digital Teleprotection is sometimes incorrectly called SONET protection.  Digital Teleprotection is terminal equipment that could communicate using carrier equipment with different protocols, while SONET is communication protocol/equipment that at present is used to carry both the new IMUX 2000 digital teleprotection and the old 937 analog teleprotection

  61. AC
    • Alternating Current
    • oscillating power (bi-directional)Automatic voltage regulators are used on alternating current (AC) machines; generators, frequency changers, and synchronous condensers, to smooth out voltage fluctuations and, thereby, contribute to system stability and customer satisfaction.
  62. CNF
    • Confirmed
    • An order has been confirmed when all the operations have been carried out and verified – i.e once all the operations with a PM01 control key change to CNF
    • Once the Miforms are done, and all the operations with a PM01 control key change to CNF the operation status will change to cnf.
    • Sometimes errors occur with the Miforms and orders will get stuck in PCNF status and need to be manually confirmed
