Spinal Cord

The flashcards below were created by user tgherasim on FreezingBlue Flashcards.

  1. Central Canal
    Contains CSF
  2. Commissures (dorsal and ventral gray, ventral white)
    • Dorsal/Ventral Gray: Connects the two halves of the cord
    • Ventral White: Nerves cross here, connects the white matter to both sides
  3. Dorsal Root Ganglion
Collection of nerve cell bodies outside of the CNS
  4. Dorsal and Ventral Roots
    • Dorsal Root: Relays sensory information
    • Ventral Root: Relays motor information
  5. Ependymal Cells
    Line the central canal
  6. Somatic Motor (efferent)
    • Efferent information to skeletal muscles
    • Black
  7. Visceral Sensory Neurons
    • Information to and from interoceptors, smooth muscle, visceral organs, glands
    • Green
  8. Visceral Motor Neurons
    • Information to and from interoceptors, smooth muscle, visceral organs, glands
    • Red
  9. Somatic Sensory (afferent)
    • Sensory information to the spinal cord
    • Yellow
  10. Sympathetic Ganglia
Collective masses of nerve cell bodies in the brain subserving sensory functions
  11. Sympathetic Chain
Part of the sympathetic nervous system
  12. Spinal Nerve
Mixed nerve with axons from many sensory and motor neurons
  13. Dorsal Ramus
    • Information to and from skin, skeletal muscles of back
    • Somatic and visceral, both motor and sensory
  14. Ventral Ramus
    Form plexuses
  15. Ramus Communicans
Information to and from interoceptors, smooth muscle, visceral organs, glands
