The flashcards below were created by user tgherasim on FreezingBlue Flashcards.

  1. Anterior Cavity (anterior and posterior chambers)
    • Contain aqueous humor
    • Anterior: In front of iris
    • Posterior: Behind iris
  2. Choroid Coat
Helps absorb light and prevents it from scattering
  3. Ciliary Body (ciliary muscle and ciliary processes)
    • Muscle: Contracts the lens
    • Processes: Secretes watery aqeous humor
  4. Cornea
    Bends light waves
  5. Extrinsic Muscles
    Eye movement
  6. Iris
    Contraction makes pupil larger
  7. Lacrimal Gland
    Produces lacrimal fluid
  8. Excretory Ducts of the Lacrimal Gland
Ducts that lead into the sac
  9. Lacrimal Canaliculi
Drains tears produced by the lacrimal gland
  10. Lacrimal Sac
Important both for producing and draining tears
  11. Lens
    Focuses light on the retina
  12. Posterior Cavity
    • Vitreous humor
    • Gives the eye its shape
  13. Pupil
Contrl the amount of light that gets into the eye
  14. Retina
    Visual information pathway
  15. Fovea Centralis
    Eye movements focus light here
  16. Optic Disc (blind spot)
Where optic nerve and blood vessels leave retina
  17. Sclera
    Protective layer
  18. Suspensory Ligaments
    Changes shape of the lens
  19. Corneal Epithelium
    Effective barrier against fluid loss
  20. Ocular Conjunctiva
Lines the inner surface of the eyelids
  21. Palpebra
    Eyelid
  22. Palpebral Conjuctiva
    Lines the eyelids
  23. Rods and Cones Layer
    • Rods: Responsible for vision at low light levels
    • Cones: Responsible for high spatial acuity
  24. Scleral Venus Sinus (canal of Schlemm)
Collects aqueous humor from the anterior chamber and delivers it into the bloodstream
