What is the Plasma Membrane?
Each living cell is a small compartment with an outer boundary. Controls what goes into and out of the cell.
-
What is the Cytosol?
A fluid inside each cell. Consist of mainly water but can contain some substances like sugar and salt.
-
What is the Cell Wall?
A rigid layer of polysaccharides lying outside the plasma membrane of the cells of plants, fungi, and bacteria. In the algae and higher plants it consists mainly of cellulose.
-
What is the Nucleus?
The central and most important part of an object, movement, or group, forming the basis for its activity and growth
-
What is the Ribosome?
A minute particle consisting of RNA and associated proteins found in large numbers in the cytoplasm of living cells. They bind messenger RNA and transfer RNA to synthesize polypeptides and proteins.
-
What is the Mitochondria?
An organelle found in large numbers in most cells, in which the biochemical processes of respiration and energy production occur. It has a double membrane, the inner part being folded inwards to form layers (cristae).
-
What is the Lysosome?
An organelle in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells containing degradative enzymes enclosed in a membrane.
-
What is the Cytoskeleton?
a microscopic network of protein filaments and tubules in the cytoplasm of many living cells, giving them shape and coherence.
-
What is the Peroxisomes?
a small organelle present in the cytoplasm of many cells, which contains the reducing enzyme catalase and usually some oxidases.
-
What is the Golgi Complex?
The Golgi complex, also known as the Golgi apparatus or simply the Golgi, is a cytoplasmic organelle. It is found in eukaryote cells, as in animals, plants, and fungi. The complex was discovered by Camillo Golgi in 1898.
