When do symptoms occur?
They occur when about 80% of the dopamine stored in the substantia nigra of the basal ganglia is depleted.
Can symptoms be controlled?
Partially controlled as long as there are functioning nerve terminals that can take up dopamine.
Symptoms of PD
- Postural instability
- Staggering gait
Absence of psychomotor activites resulting in mask-like facial expressions
Slowness of movement
