The flashcards below were created by user Anonymous on FreezingBlue Flashcards. What would you like to do?

  1. Crest
    the section of the wave that rises about the undisturbed position, it is the highest point in a transverse wave
  2. Trough
    • the section of the wave that lies below the undisturbed position, it is the lowest point in a
    • transverse wave
  3. Amplitude
    The maximum positive displacement from the undisturbed position of the medium to the top of a crest or the distance from the rest position straight up to the crest or trough.
  4. Wavelength
    the distance between any two adjacent correspoinding locations on the wave train. This distance is usually measured in one of three ways: crest to crest, trough to trough, or the distance from the rest position, straight up to the crest or down to the trough.
  5. Medium
    the matter that most waves travel through or material
  6. Median/Rest Position/Undisturbed Medium
    Where the particles of a medium stay when thereare no disturbances
  7. Frequency
    how many waves are made per time interval and is measured in Hertz or Hz
  8. Speed
    The speed at which the waves travel, the speed of a wave depends on the medium in which the wave is traveling
  9. Wave Equation
    Speed of the wave = Frequency x Wavelength or V=f*λ
  10. Parts of a wave
  11. Wave equation if no frequency
    V=s/t or Speed=distance/time
  12. Transverse Waves
    a wave that's direction of motion is 90o to the motion of its medium.
  13. Longitudinal wave
    particles of medium move back and forth along the same direction of wave, has 2 distinct regions - compression and rarefaction, sound waves.
  14. Mili(m)
    10-3=.001
  15. kilo (k)
    103=1000
  16. Mega (M)
    106=1,000,000
  17. Law of Reflection
    Incident angle is equal to the reflected angle.
