What are the four premises for studying organic chemistry?
- 1. Fundamental concepts
- 2. Mathematical predictions
- 3. Paradigms are working models
- 4. Creation of art is the purpose of life
What are the components of the fundamental concepts?
- 1. Inductive effect
- 2. Resonance effect
- 3. Change in hybridization
- 4. Influence of neighboring groups
What is the inductive effect?
If two different atoms are covalently bonded then the atom with the greater electronegativity will carry a partial positive charge and the less electronegative atom will carry a partial negative charge. As the inductive effect pull electrons away from an atom it causes hydrogen atoms to behave as lewis acids and it shifts peaks downfield in NMR spectroscopy.
