    Due to lethal effects and development of safer and more effective drugs, now infrequently prescribed.
  3. Barbiturates Side Effects:
    • slurred speech
    • nystagmus
    • dizziness
    • irritability
    • impaired motor and cognitive performance
  4. Barbiturates Overdose:
    • ataxia
    • confusion
    • agitation
    • respiratory depression
    • death
    • drug-induced birth defects and/or congenital dependence
    • soporific (sleep-inducing) effects generally last for only a few weeks
  5. Anxiolytics Uses (most widely-used psychiatric medication):
    • relieve anxiety
    • treat sleep disturbances

    • cerebral palsy
    • other disorders involving muscle spasm
