action:
- Potent alpha agonist in cardiac arrest studies.
- Regulates water conservation and causes vasoconstriction
- increases the smooth muscular activity of theGI tract
Indications:
- cardiac arrest due to V-fib or pulseless V tach
- neurogenic diabetes insipidous
- GI hemorrhage
contraindications:
- allergies
- vascular disease
- angina pectoris
precaution:
- risk of hyponatremia
- Pts with asthma
- epilepsy
- heart failure
side effects:
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- confusion
- hives
- wheezing
- pain at IV sites
