Defintion of paint (aka, "Coating")
"Any surface coating intended to protect, aesthetic improvement, or provide some special quality"
What are the four categories of paint?
1). Architectural- (house paint) Found in residence or business.
2). Product coatings- Used in vehicles, those applied to manufacturing.
3) Special purpose coatings- beyound protectiong or aesthetic such as, water proofing and skin resistance.
4)Artistic Paint- Usually found in forgery cases. Each artistic paint formulates its own unique techniques. also similar to architectural paint.
Paint terminology words:
Name and explain the automotive finishes.
Pretreatment- Zin electroplating (rust prevention)
Primer- Epoxy resin w/ coersion-resistant pigment
Topcoat- single, multiple or metallic color coat (provides vehicle color)
Clearcoat- unpiggmented coating to improve gloss and durability.
Plastic substrates (bumper made of nylon, polymer blends, polyurethane resins).
Metalic pigments may contain zinc, nickel and bronze.
