    difficulty swallowing, produces the sensation that food is stuck in the throat or chest

    Fecal matter is too hard to pass easily ot inwhich bowel movements are so infrequent that discomfort and other symptoms interfere with ADLs.
  4. What is the defintion of Gastritis?
    inflammation of the lining of the stomach (gastric mucosa). Is not a single disease but represents a group of the most common stomach disorders. Gastritis is classified as acute or chronic.

    Acute = hemorrhagic indicatiing bleeding from the gastric mucosa

    Chronic = type A (autoimmune) or type B (chronic bacterial infection)
  5. What is the defintion of Peptic ulcer? What are the 2 kinds?
    It's a break in the protective mucosal lining, exposing submucosal areas to gastric secretions (pepsin). Occur as a gastric ulcer or a duodenal ulcer (more common).

    Gastric ulcer = affects the lining of the stomach

    duodenal ulcer = occurs in the duodenum

    You can have both at the same time!
  6. What is the defintion of Inflammatory bowel disease? (2)
    Inflammatory bowel disease can be 2 things:

    Crohn's disease = chronic, lifelong inflammaroty disorder affecting the intestines. Affects all layers of the intestine, characterized by diseased area of intestine with normal intestine between (the skip areas). Marked by periods of exacerbation and remission. Idiopathic.

    Ulcerative colitis = chronic inflammation of the mucosa and submucosa of the colon in a continous manner without skips. Characterized by chronic diarrhea and rectal bleeding with ulcerations. Idiopathic.
  7. What is the defintion of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?
    A group of symptoms that represent the most common disorder of the GI system. There is no ninflammation associated with IBS. It is a chronic condition that is not limited to the conlon but can occur anywhere in the small and large intestines. Women are more affected than men.
