. What would you like to do?
What is a contact force?
A force exerted by the agent that touches the receiver.
What is a receiver?
What the force is being applied onto.
What is a Elastic Force?
When something is being stretched or compressed.
What is an agent?
The object that's putting onto the force.
What is an buoyant force?
the directional force exerted upward by a liquid on a submerged body.
What is a non-contact force?
a force exerted by the agent that doesn't touch the receiver.
What is an frictional force?
the force that opposes the motion between objects in contact with each other.
What is a magnectic force?
the attraction or repulsion that one magnectic exerts on another. Or an attraction between magnet and metal.
What is electrical force?
the force that causes oppositly charged materials to repair each other.
Describe 2 situations where you have a contact force.
- sumerging in water a cup until it is full.
- skating on ice your shoes against the ice.
- hitting a balll with a bat.
- Your foot touching the floor.
Describe situations where you have a noncontact force?
When you rub your hair with a balloon when you take balloon out it will try to cling to your hair.
How could you increases friction? Why would you do this?
One way to increase friction is to make surfaces rougher. Another way to increase frcition is to increase the force pushing the surfaces together.
How could you decreases friction?
One way to reduce friction is to use lubricants. Lubricants are substances that are applied to surfaces to reduce the friction between the surfaces.Examples of lubricants are motor, oil, wax, and gases. Friction can also be reduced by switching from sliding kinetic friction to rolling kinetic friction. Another way to reduce friction is to make surfaces that rub againist each other smoother.
What is a reference point?
the object that appears to stay in place.
How can you tell if an object is in motion(moving)
You can describe the direction of the objects motion with a reference direction such as north, south, west, up, or down.
What is motion?
an object's change in position relative to a reference point.
What is speed?
the distance traveled divided by the time interval during which the motion occured.
What is the formula to find the average speed and what is the unit for speed?
- Average speed=total distance divided by total time.
How do you recognize speed on a graph?
Speed can be shown on a graph of distance versus time.
What is velocity?
the speed of an object in a particular direction. speed doesn't qual velocity.
How are speed and velocity different?
speed doesn't need a reference direction and velocity must include one.
What is acceleration?
the rate at which velocity changes over time;an object accelerates if its speed, direction or both change.
How could you recognize acceleration on a graph?
Acceleration can be shown on a graph of velocity versus time.
What is the formula for average acceleration and what are the unit it is?
- Average Acceleration=Final velocity-starting velocity divide time it takes to change veloctity.
- Velocity is expressed in meters per second. (m/s)and time is expressed in seconds.
What must happen in order for an object to be positively accelerating?
A increase in velocity.
What must happen in order for an object to be negatively accelerating?
A decrease in velocity.
the capacity to do work
Explain what Potential Energy is and give an example.
The energy that an object has because of the position, shape, or condition of the object. An example of potential energy is stretching a bow.
Explain what kinetic energy is and give an exmaple
The energy of an object that is due to the object's motion. An example of kinetic energy is a bat hits a baseball. Another one is when a hammer hits a nail. When you swing a hammer you give it kinetic energy which does work on the nail.
Example of light energy
microwave, sun, and light bulb.
Example of thermal energy
When a pot of water is on the stove.
Example of chemical energy
food like pizza
Example of nuclear energy
Example of sound
Someone playing the guitar
Example of electrical
Someone singing with a micriphone.
