Homeostasis

  1. Negative Feedback(Homeostasis)
    • Stimulus: Body temperature rises
    • (Receptors)-Temperature sensors in skin and hypothalamus send Information that affects contorl center
    • (Brain) sends commands to (Effectors)- Sweat glands in skin increase
    • Blood vessels in skin dilate
    • Response: Increase heat loss, body temperature drops
  2. Positive Feedback(Homeostasis)
    • An initial stimulus produces a response that exaggerates or enhances the change in the original conditions, rather than opposong it.
    • Ex. Blood Clotting
    • Break in blood vessel wall causes bleeding-Damaged cells release chemicals-Clotting begins-Additional chemicals released-Clotting accelerates(positive feedback loop)-Blood clot plugs break in vessel wall; bleeding stops
