Short acting benzodiazepine CNS depressant
Mechanism of action
Anxiolytic and sedative properties similar to other benzodiazepines, memory impairment.
Sedation, anxiolytic prior to endotracheal or nasotracheal intubation; administer for conscious sedation.
Glaucoma, shock, coma, alcohol intoxication, oversdose, depressed vital signs, concomitant use with other CNS depressants, barbiturates, alcohol, narcotics.
Hiccough, cough, oversedation, nausea, vomiting, injection site pain, headache, blurred vision, hypotension, repiratory depression, and arrest.
Should not be used in Pts. who have taken a CNS depressant.
2, 5, 10 mL vials (1mg/mL); 1, 2, 5, 10 mL vials (5mg/mL).
Dosage and Administration
: 2.0-2.5 mg slow IV over 2-3 minutes; may be repeated to total maximum: 0.1 mg/kg.

: 1-3 minutes, IV and dose dependent
: 2-6 hours, dose dependent
: Category D.
Administer immedialty prior to intubation procedure. Requires continuous monitoring of respiratory and cardiac function. Never administer as IV bolus.
