    When peoples lives are suddenly disrupted, econoomic depression/ wars/ famines (people going hungry)
  5. Egoistic Suicide
    When group family or community ties are weak or deemphasized, People feel disconnected or alone.
  6. Altruistic Suicide
    Ties to community are too strong instead of too weak, lives for the group. Ex: Waco
  7. Society
    Population living in the same geographic area that shares a culture and a common identity whose members are subject to the same political authority.
  8. Macro level
    Structural society and historical processes
  9. Statuses
    Positions that individuals within the society occupy. Ex: Shantee is my wife and also a mother
  10. Ascribed status
    The status you were born with Ex: Race, sex, ethnicity
  11. Achieved Status
    Social position we take on voluntarily or aquire through our own efforts or accomplishments
  12. Role strain
    People that lack the necessary resources to fulfill the demands of a particular role Ex: Parents can't provide children with adequate food, shelter or clothing.
  13. Role conflict
    Situations which people encounter tension in trying to cope with the demands of an incompatable roles. Ex: A Mother has an important out of town conference to attend on the same day her 10 year old son is appearing in a play
  14. Group
    A set of people who interact more or less regularly with one an another and are consious of their identity as a group. Ex: Colleagues at work or family
  15. In groups
    Groups we belong to and to which we feel a sense of loyalty to
  16. Out groups
    Groups we don't belong to and which we feel a certain amount of antagonisim towrads
  17. Primary group
    Consists of a relatively small numbers of members who spend a lot of time together over a long period of time
  18. Secondary group
    More formal and impersonal group ex: co-workers, classmates
  19. Dyad
    Smallest group consists of two people (relatively unstable)
  20. Triad
    Group of 3 more stable than dyad, tendency for coalitions to form
  21. Coalitions
    When two people pair up and conspire against the third
  22. Organizations
    Networks of statuses and groups created for a specific purpose. Ex: universaties, microsoft, methodist church
  23. Social institutions
    Stabl sets of statuses, roles, groups and organizations form. Provide the foundation for addressing fundemental societal needs. Ex:education, economics, politics, family and law
