1. How do you draw a graph of
4x-3y=-24 ?
• INTERCEPT METHOD,
• set both values to zero
2. how do you solve:

x/2+y/3=1
x/4-y=11

What kind of problem is it?
simultaneous equation

First, find the LCD to get rid of the fractions

x/2+y/3=1

becomes

6(x/2+y/3=1)

multiply by the least common denominator then cross divide.

equaling

2x+2y=6

do the same for the second

x/4-y=11

• multiply for the LCD
• then cross divide, equalling:

x-4y=44

then line each equation up and see which variables will cancel each other

• 6x+2Y=6
• x-4y=44

the Y will add up, only if they were positive and negative, so multiply by a 2.

• 2y
• -2y

cancel

solve for X,

• plug it in to the other equation.
• solve for Y
3. To solve

x/2+y/3=1
x/4-y=11

since it has an equal sign,
what should u remember to do?
Do what ever operation to both sides
4. How many pounds of candy should there be?

3.75 5
----- ------
x 35
set up the equation

3.75+5(35)= ( x+35) (4.25)

multiply by a hunnet

375x + 5(35)(100)=(0+35)(425)
5. Subtract the sum of 5x+3 & x2-x-8 from 3x-5
• first, line them up and subtract,

sum= subtract

• x2-x-8
• 5x+3
• ---------------
• x2+4-5

now the 2nd part, subtract

(3x-5) - (x2+4x-5)

• CHANGE THE SIGNS,
• then proceed to combine/do operations
6. When you see

(3x-5) - (x2+4x-5)

what should you do?
Use the subtraction to flip the 2nd equation
7. expand

(5x-7y)2
use the exponent to split it into 2

(5x-7Y) (5x-7Y)

then FOIL
8. Simplify

(x-y)2 - (x-y)2
In order to simplify, you must first split them

• (x-y)(x-y)-(x+y)(x+y)
• then foil

x2-xy-yx+y2 - (x2+xy+xy+y2)

then combine
9. Plane travels 150MPH with a head wind at 90 miles per hour, with a tail wind, what is the current speed?
Set it up,

• You want to find current speed,
• you don't know it so
• current speed = X

speed of wind= Y

tail wind= x+y

• x+y=150
• x-y=90

• 2x=240
• x=120
10. simplify

(5-2+3-1)-1
(5-2+3-1)-1

First, change it into positive using the formula

• a-2 = 1
• --
• 2a

• so...
• (5-2+3-1)-1
• 1 1 -1
• - + -
• 25 13
• Then solve what's inside
11. simplify:

(x7y4z8) 3
----------
x2y5z4
move apples with apples,

• x5 z4 3
• -------
• Y

then apply the exponent
12. What is the scientific notation of

63425.93
first move the decimal creating a number from 1-10

• 63425.93
• <------
• the number of times you move create the number

6.342593x104

left is positive

right is negative
13. Simplify using scientific notion

(.24)(5000)
---------------
.066
• make it a number from 1-10
• the number of decimal counts determine the positive or negative

• 2.4x10-1 x 5x10-------------
• 6x10-3
14. Factorize
x3+72+6x
Take out the x

x(x2+7x+6)

then do the A C method

• x(x2+7x+6)
• ^

What can multiply to 6 and equal to 7? 6+1

x(2x+6x+x+6)

x(2x+6x)(x+6)

2x2(1+3x)(x+6)
15. factor
(25-Y2)
find the square of the number

52 - Y2

then split it

(5-y)(5+y)

16. Solve
x2-16=0
• x2-16=0
• ^
• what 2 numbers equal 16
• Now factor

(x+4)(x-4)
17. Solve
x(x-1)=2
• x(x-1)=2
• distribute

• x2-x-2=0
• AC method will work.
• x-2)(x+1)=0

• Set them both to 0
• x=2 x=-1
18. What is the quadratic formula?
• X=-B plus or minus(+ or -) square root B2-4AC
• ---------------------------------------------------------------
• 2A

• X=-B(+or-)squaroot(B2-4AC)
• 2A
19. How do you use the Quad formula?

X+x2+x3
A+B+C, fill it in, solve
