Science ch 12
What does the Cardiovascular System do?
Uses blood to carry material to/from cell
What are the Veins?
Blood vessels that direct blood back to the heart.
What are Arteries?
Blood vessels that direct blood away from the heart.
What is Hemoglobin?
The protein that gives the RBC's their color, sticks to inhaled oxygen.
What does blood compose of?What is it?
Connective tissue, Composed of Plasma, Blood Cells,Platelets
What are Antibodies?
A protein released by WBC to destroy pathogens.
What is plasma?
The fluid part of the blood.
What are RBC? What does it do?
Most blood cells are RBC. To take oxygen to the cells.
What are WBC?
Cells that help people stay healthy by destroying pathogens.
What are Capillaries?
They are the smallest blood vessel, so small, blood cells must pass through single file.
What is an atria?
Upper chamber of the heart
Whats a ventricle?
Lower chamber of the heart.
Collection of organs that return extra fluid.
Fluid and particles absorbed into the lymph capillaries
Small, bean-shaped organs that remove pathogens.
Largest lymph organ. Filters blood
Spongelike, contains alveoli.
Dome-Shaped muscle, that, when contracting, increases the chest cavity
2 tubes the trachea splits up into.
Thousands of tiny sacs in the lungs
Throat. Air, Food, Drink travels through. branches into 2 tubes. Esophagus->to the stomach. Larynx->To the lung
Windpipe. Passageway for air trveling from larynx to the lung
Process of breaking down food
Made in salivary gland, has enzymes that begin chemical digestion.
Chemical and Physical Digestion
Large molecules being broken down.
Physical crushing and breaking of food.
A Tube that leads from thrachea to the stomach.
Organ in the digestive system that stores compacts and gets rid of indigestible waste.
Small finger like projections that increase the surface area of the Small Intestine
The digested mixture in the stomach
A substance that breaks down nutrients
A juice in the pancreas that has enzymes
Functions of liver
Breaks down toxic material
Something made and used in fat digestion. Stored in the gallbladder. Green
Where chemical digestion takes place. Covered in Villi
Removing of waste products from blood
Methods of extretion
Integumentary, respiratory,urinary systems
Pair of bean-shaped organs, clean the blood
Tiny filterers in the kidneys
Contains nitrogen, forms when cells use proteins
Small tube in which the urine leaves the kidneys.
Where urine is stored
Where the urine leaves the body
Makes more urine, Caffeinated drinks
Hormone that signals kidneys to take back water
