  1. Innate Immunity
    • First Line of defense
    • External- skin, mucus, hair
    • Internal- White blood cells (eat bacteria/viruses) Natural killer Cells- (release chemicals to force cells to die)
    • Inflammatory response- triggered by any damage to tissue
  2. Inflammatory response
    • (innate immunity)
    • 1. bacteria gathers; tissue releases hisimine, dilates blood vessels and gathers white blood cells.
    • 2. White blood cells collect at infector site
    • 3. engulf bacteria
  3. Aquired Immunity
    • "2nd line of defense"
    • Antibodies- Proteins in blood specific antigen
    • Lymphocytes- White blood cells
  4. Antibodies
    • Part of Aquired Immunity
    • *Proteins in blood specific antigen
    • Vaccination- harmless variant to stimulate immune system
  5. Lymphocytes
    • Part of Aquired immunity
    • 1. B Cells: Produce antibodies->mark antigens for destruction
    • -neutralization: enable bacteria or viruses from infecting
    • -agglutination: clump bacteria or viruses together
    • 2. T Cells: activates immune system and destroys cells
    • -Helper T Cell: activates other cells
    • -Cytotoxic T Cells: destroy infected cells
  6. Cytotoxic T Cells process of destroying infected cells
    • 1. cytotoxic identifies infected cell and produces perforin
    • 2. perforin released by cytotoxic T and attacks to infected cell
    • 3. perforin pokes holes in infected cell--lyses
  7. Lymphatic System Functions
    • 1. returns fluid to circulatory system
    • 2. fights infection
  8. Lymphatic Organs
    • (all organs are packed with macrophages/white blood cells)
    • tonsils
    • appendix
    • spleen
    • Lymphatic vessles have lymph and white blood cells
  9. Lymphatic System Responses
    • 1. Humoral Immune Response:
    • -B cells activates to produce antibodies
    • -B cells produced by bone marrow
    • 2. Cell mediated Immune Response:
    • -Helper T cells-cytotoxic, regular helper t, activates b cells
    • -produced by thymines
  10. AIDS
    • (Aquired Immunodefiency Syndrome)
    • HIV- aggressive attacker of T-cells and uses for reproduction
  11. Disorders of The Immune System
    • SCID (Severe combines immunodefiency):- missing T or B-Cells
    • Autoimmune Diseases: individuals body attacks itself
    • -lupus- B cells produce DNA antibodies
    • -multiple sclerosis- T cells attack neurons in nerve
    • Allergies: hypersensitivity to an allergen
  12. Allerigies Exposures
    • 1st exposure:
    • - B cells make antibodies
    • - antibodies bind to "mast" cell which produces histamine
    • 2nd exposure:
    • -"Anaphylatic shock"- histamine released very suddenly
