    Hematology (hema – blood, tology – study of )
  2. -study of blood
    -Adults have about 8-10 pints of blood circulating throughout the body
    -Life giving fluid of the body

    • -Transports oxygen to body organs -(pathogens, nutrients) drops off and picks up, red blood cells live about 3 – 5 days
    • -Removes carbon dioxide and waste from the organs
    • -Carries nutrients to cells
    • -Delivers hormones from glands
    • -Delivers minerals throughout body

    • -Has electrolytes, minerals, amino acids, gases, vitamins, hormones, prothrombin,
    • albumin, serum globin (glucose, HIV, carbon dioxide is gas, hemaglobin is a
    • protein)
    • –because when you centrifuse the blood you separate everything, you
    • take everything out of the cells

    erythrocytes, Leukocytes,Thrombocytes Platelets
