    Causes: Autoimmune, infection.

    Causes: Pituitary tumor, Cortisol treatment.
  6. CORTICOSTEROID AGENTS
    USES:
    • Inflammatory conditions:
    • Allergic reactions
    • Rheumatoid arthritis- oral injectable
    • Skin conditions- Topical
    • Asthma- Inhaled
    • Organ transplantation to prevent rejection.
  7. CORTICOSTEROID AGENTS
    SIDE EFFECTS:
    • Delayed wound healing
    • Increased risk of infection
    • Osteoperosis (Bone loss)
    • Hyperglycemia and diabetes.
    • Mood swings, depression
  8. CORTICOSTEROID AGENTS
    PRECAUTIONS:
    • Avoid prolonged use
    • Discontinue gradually
  9. THYROID AGENTS
    HYPOTHYROIDISM
    Reduced activity of the thyroid gland.
  10. THYROID SUPPLEMENTS
    Levothyroxine (Synthroid)
    Synthetic thyroid compounds are more accurately dosed..

    SE's: Tachychardia, palpitations, hypertension.
  11. THYROID SUPPRESSIVE AGENTS
    Hyperthyroidism - Graves disease

    Causes: Autoimmune 60's- 70's
  12. ANTIDIABETIC AGENTS
    INSULLIN
    Hormone produced in the pancreas
  13. DIABETES MELLITUS
    Syndrome of hyperglycemia (elevated blood sugar)

  17. ORAL ANTIDIABETIC AGENTS
    along w diet cchanges. oral changes may control blood sugar w out the need for insulin.

    Used mainly in type 2 diabetes.
