    Causes a significant increase in the myocardial contractile force and increases ventricular automaticity
  3. Indications
    hyperkalemia (dangerously high potassium level), hypocalcemia (dangerously low calcium level), calcium channel blocker toxicity
  4. Contraindications/Precautions
    • Calcium chloride may precipitate digitalis toxicity in patients who take digitalis. May cause precipitate to form when used in conjunction with Sodium Bicarbonate.
    • May cause: dysrhythmia (including asystole), hypotension, N/V, coronary or cerebral artery spasms
  5. Dosage and Administration
    • Standard dose is 250mg-500mg IV or 2-4mg/kg of 10% solution; repeat every 10 minutes as directed by medical control
    • Pediatric dose is 20mg/kg
