  1. Sinus Arrhythmia
    NSR with irregular rate
  2. Sinus tachycardia
    • NSR rate > 100
    • give O2
  3. Sinus bradycardia
    • NSR rate < 60
    • give O2 and Atropine
  4. Premature ventricular contractions
    • caused by suctioning
    • give O2 and lidocaine
  5. Multifocal PVC
    • dangerous, problems in more than one area of heart
    • give O2 and lidocaine
  6. V tach
    ALWAYS CHECK PULSE

    • no pulse: defibrillate 360 J once
    • pulse: lidocaine and cardiovert
  7. V fib
    defibrillate
  8. Asystole
    confirm in 2 leads first

    give Epi, Atropine and CPR

    NON SHOCKABLE RHYTHM
  9. 1st degree AV block
    prolonged PR interval

    give atropine
  10. 2nd degree AV block
    • normal P wave
    • no QRS complex

    give atropine and electrical pacemaker
  11. 3rd degree AV block
no correlation between P and QRS

    electrical pacemaker
  12. Normal direction of axis
    down and to the left
  13. Factors that affect direction of axis
hypertrophy: axis shifs towards hypertrophy because of increased electrical activity

infarction: axis shifts away from infarction because of no electrical activity - dead tissue
  14. 3 I's of EKG
    Ischemia: inverted T waves

    Injury: increased ST segment

    Infacrtion: significant Q waves
  15. Best lead to look at
    lead II

*troubleshooting: if everything appears upside down in thes lead you most likely have your leads crossed
  16. Best chest lead to look at
V5 becasue it is directly over L ventricle
