    Strong, white, fibrous material covering the bones. Blood vessels and nerves enter and leave the bone through this membrane.

    Occurs when all or part of a disk in the spine is forced through a weakened part of the disk. This places pressure on nearby nerves.
  13. Anterior Fontanels
    Soft spot lying between the cranial bones.
  14. Basilar Skull
    Portion of the skull that forms the floor of the skull.
  15. Battle's Sign
    Bruising behind the ears (over the mastoid process) indicative of a basilar skull fracture.
  16. Spinal Cord Injury
    Signs include priapism, posturing, loss of bowel or bladder control, and neurogenic shock caused by the failure of the nervous system to control the diameter of blood vessels.
